Ada, OK - ADA [ndash] Riley E. Young, Jr., age 86, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, in Edmond, Oklahoma. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and community leader, Riley lived a life marked by integrity, faith, and service.
Born on April 20, 1939, in Soper, Oklahoma, to R.E. and Eudora Whitley Young, Riley grew up in Lawrence, Oklahoma, where he attended grade school through eighth grade. He graduated from Fitzhugh High School in 1958, where he excelled in basketball and baseball.
In April of 1957, Riley attended a gospel meeting at Southwest Church of Christ, where he met a young woman named Beverly Todd. The two began dating soon after and were married on June 27, 1958—just after graduating high school. Their love story continued for 67 years, and together they raised two sons, Todd Eric and Scott Wade.
Riley began his professional journey with Brockway Glass and OTASCO, but in 1960 he found his true calling in banking when he joined First National Bank in Ada, as a teller. After 22 years of service, he joined Citizens Bank of Ada, where his leadership, character, and dedication to people earned him several promotions. He became President of the bank in 1998 and retired as President and CEO in 2006. Even in retirement, Riley continued to serve on the bank's board of directors until his passing. In recognition of his distinguished career, he was a member of the Oklahoma Bankers Association 50-Year Club.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Riley gave generously of his time to the Ada community. He served on the boards of the ECU Foundation, Byng Schools, Ada Industrial Development Corporation, Compassion Outreach Center, and First Trinity Life Insurance. He loved Ada deeply and invested his life in helping it grow and thrive.
Riley also served his country with honor in the Oklahoma Army National Guard for 12 years.
A man of deep faith, Riley was a longtime member of both Southwest and Central Church of Christ in Ada. His life ministry was recognizing people in need and helping and serving people from all walks of life. He and Beverly found joy in camping, traveling with friends, and spending time with their growing family. His greatest delight was in being "Pop" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Riley is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; his son Scott Young and much-loved daughter-in-law, Sonya; grandsons Tyler Young of Jacksonville, Florida; Tanner Young and wife Kaycie of Ada; and Logan Keeton of Mobile, Alabama; great-granddaughters Edyn Grace, Willow Elyse, Haven Layne, and soon-to-arrive Ellie Ryan. He is also survived by his brother Lee Young of Ada; sister Lawanda Snyder and husband Johnny of Magdalena, New Mexico; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Todd Eric Young; his parents; his brother, Billy Joe Young; and sisters Sue Green and Mildred Morgan Clinton.
Pall Bearers will be Tyler Young, Tanner Young, Logan Keeton, John Treat, Bill Bolin, Randall Pogue, Jim Dicus and Kassie Cothran.
