George Mitchell Heck Obituary

Centrahoma, Oklahoma - Church services for George Mitchell Heck, 75, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Coalgate. Family night will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Brown's Funeral Service chapel.

George was a longtime Centrahoma resident. He passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at his home. He was born Oct. 23, 1941, in Ada to Odie and Effie (Thornton) Heck. He attended and graduated from Centrahoma High School, then received his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from East Central University. He married Sherry (Whatley) Heck June 19, 1976, in Waco, Texas. He was a well-known coach and rancher in Oklahoma and Texas. He loved to coach football, basketball, baseball and track. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Coalgate, a member of the Oklahoma Coaches Association and the Texas School Coaches Association.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry of the home; his daughters, Jerri Zachary and her husband, Larry, of Durant, Ginger Crawford of Durant, Shannon Hill and her husband, Charles, of Latta; a son, Odie Heck and his wife, Crystal, of Tupelo; 10 grandchildren, Ashley Channels and her husband, Matt, Alissa Zachary, Alexandria Zachary, Nathan Crawford, Taylor Crawford, Tyler Grigg, Bentley Hill, Maygan Hill, Brazos Heck and Taos Heck; one sister, Ima June Newton of Waco, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Cleatus Heck, Brutus Heck and Keith Heck; and one sister, Melba Evans.
