Dorothy D. Barlow Obituary

Yukon, OK - Dorothy D. Barlow, age 91, passed away on January 22, 2026 in Yukon, OK. She was born on August 13, 1934, in Ada, OK. Dorothy grew up in Stanfield and Casa Grande, AZ, and graduated from Casa Grande Union High School in 1953. She later moved to Tempe, AZ, where she attended Arizona State University. Dorothy earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966 and a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education in 1970.

While attending college, she worked as an office assistant at Western Cotton Products Company. Following this position, she was hired as a mathematics teacher at McClintock High School in Tempe, AZ. Dorothy taught at McClintock High School from 1965 to 1979 and later taught in the Madison and Phoenix Union High School Districts from 1982 to 1996.Dorothy served as Treasurer of the Tempe Secondary Teachers Association from 1969 to 1971. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as a deacon at Morningside Presbyterian Church in Phoenix, AZ. In 2010, she and her husband James moved to Spanish Cove Retirement Village in Yukon, OK, where they were actively involved. Dorothy truly loved life and lived it to the fullest. She had a deep passion for travel, and she and Jim were almost always on the go—whether exploring new places with Spanish Cove or traveling on their own. An avid exerciser, Dorothy rarely missed a class. She was a familiar and inspiring presence at Stretch & Strengthen, yoga, and line dancing, and she could often be found in the fitness center on the treadmill, happily reading a good book. Dorothy had a servant's heart and generously volunteered as a hospitality resident in Town Hall. She was also a phenomenal bridge player and cherished the friendships and sense of community that surrounded her. Dorothy loved staying connected with her circle of friends, regularly sending encouraging messages and Bible verses by text—small gestures that meant so much to so many. Above all, Dorothy was a devoted dog lover. She was affectionately known as "Gus Orr's second mom" and lovingly cared for him whenever Melota traveled to the lake. Gus treasured his afternoons and weekends with Dorothy, and in truth, all of the Spanish Cove dogs seemed to adore her just as much as she adored them. Everyone loved Dorothy! Dorothy is survived by her husband, James Douglas Barlow of Yukon, OK; her stepson, Douglas Neal Barlow, and his wife, Diana, of Florida; and three step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Rinzy Richey and Lue W. Jonson Richey Ingram; her stepfather, Clarence Ingram; her brother, J. W. Richey; and her stepsisters, Myrna Cole and Lois Wells. Memorial donations may be made to Spanish Cove Retirement Village, 11 Palm Avenue, Yukon, OK 73099 or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O.
