Stratford, Oklahoma - Charles W. Fisher of Stratford was born July 9, 1937, in Oklahoma City to Walter Briscoe (Bud) Fisher and Jettie Mae (Smart) Fisher. He passed away Nov. 2, 2018, in Norman at the age of 81 years, three months and 24 days. Charles grew up in the Konawa, Vanoss and Stratford areas, graduating from Vanoss High School in 1956. Charles married the love of his life, Audie Pearl (Hinkle) Fisher, on April 21, 1958, in Stratford. They were married for 60 wonderful years.
Charles and Audie were faithful members of the Byars Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Charles Fisher was an American hero. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1957 and served during the Vietnam War as a C-130B flight engineer. As an airman in the 772nd Tactical Airlift Squadron, Pacific Air Command, he flew over 700 combat sorties, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, seven Air Medals and an Air Force Commendation Medal. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1977 after 21 years of meritorious service.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Charles Vernon Fisher; and a sister, Johnanna (Fisher) Mitchell.
He is survived by a son, Clint Fisher and wife, Teresa; a daughter, Darla Kay Ruminer and husband, J.L., all of Stratford; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his loving church family and a multitude of friends.
Pallbearers: Kenneth Young, Nathan Fisher, Jon Radebaugh, TJ Kanaugh, Kevin Dodds and Randy Hinkle.
Services took place Tuesday at Life Point Church south of Stratford on Highway 177. Officiating were the Revs. Frank Trent and James Baldridge. Burial was in McGee Cemetery, Stratford.
