I met Mr. Johns when I was a H.S. baseball player at Asher ('82).
We crossed paths many times after that, always at the Byng baseball field press box.
My favorite story is when Bobby shared a taxi to a Cardinal game with Whitey Herzog (his friend) and Todd Zeile (my friend). Zeile (from UCLA) was my roommate for parts of three years in the minor leagues.
Mr Johns said, "Zeile just wanted to know one thing. 'Did Asher really win all those baseball titles I had to always hear about?' "
"Yes, they sure did." Bobby answered.

He was a fine gentleman. I will miss hearing that unique voice every time I'm at Stokes Field.

I played baseball for coach Johns for six years and I never heard a bad word from him. He truly put into practice Paul's words in Philippians4:8-9.

We are saddened by the news of your loss. Bobby was a very compassionate man who was always as helpful and kind as possible. He was there for mine and many other families in our times of trial and sorrow. We will always remember him fondly. You miss him so much, but have the peace of knowing that he is in the best place possible and feeling the best ever. Love to you all.

I'll never forget all the Ada baseball games that me and Bobby got to visit and drink coffee at, while he announced in the press box. He was a wonderful Christian man. I will truly miss Bobby. My prayers are with the family.
