Tommy Russell Kimbrell was born Nov. 3, 1947, to Earl Russell and Helen (Hughes) Kimbrell in Holdenville.
He departed this life May 10, 2017, at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 7 days.
Tom graduated from Allen High School in 1966. He served his country in the Marines division of the United States Armed Forces and fought in the Vietnam War. A few years later, Tom obtained his bachelor's degree in education from East Central University in Ada. He taught history and coached football and basketball at the junior high level for Wetumka Public Schools.
Tom loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. As well, he was an avid arrowhead hunter. Some of the artifacts he found have been donated for public display.
To say Tom was a huge OU football fan was an understatement; he loved razzing other family members who rooted for OSU. Family was very important to Tom, and he loved attending his grandkids' sporting events.
He is survived by two children, Heather Reed and husband, Tyler, and Andy Kimbrell and wife, Marla, both of Ada; one sister, Deanna Eslick and husband, Leroy, of Bristow; six grandchildren, Chelsey Temple and husband, Ryan of Ada, Drew Waterman of Owasso, Racen Reed, Riley Reed, December Morrison, and Everett Kimbrell and wife, Shane, all of Ada; and one niece, Kim Bacon and husband, Keith, of Locust Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.hutchinsmaplesfuneralhome.com.
