No services are planned at this time for Ronald Averett Thompson, 83, of Ada.
Mr. Thompson passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at an Ada hospital. He was born July 25, 1933, in Ada to Bona Leon and Junessie Wells Thompson. He attended Ada schools and graduated from Ada High School in 1951. While at Ada High, he was active in the football program and was named to the Oklahoma All-State Football Team in 1950. His was the first football scholarship offered to an Ada High athlete during the Bud Wilkinson reign.
Ron graduated from The University of Oklahoma in 1956 and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army. After serving, he remained in the Army Reserve and became an Ada main street merchant, managing Lucy's Ladies Clothing Store which was owned by his aunt, Lucy Rollow.
Ron returned to active duty in 1969 as a major and retired as a Full colonel after 20 years of service.
Survivors include a brother, Jerry Thompson and his wife, Sue, of Ada; two nephews, Ronald Tee Thompson and Jerry Tad Thompson, both of Tempe, Arizona; and a life-long friend, Henry Katz of Ada.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Sooners Helping Sooners, Inc., 2600 Van Buren Street, No. 2600, Norman, OK 73012.
