Ron Ricord passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Baylor Medical Center in Grapevine, Texas, at the age of 73 after a lengthy battle with heart disease. He was born June 24, 1944, in McAlester to Daniel and Gladys Ricord.
Ron graduated from McAlester High School in 1964. While in high school, he worked as a DJ at local radio station KTMC, where his love of playing music began.
In 1964, Ron attended East Central University in Ada, where he worked part time at KTEN News station, starting as a cameraman. Later he became a weatherman and news anchor.
After his career in television, Ron fulfilled a lifelong dream with his ownership and operation of KASX and KTLS radio stations in Ada and KEOR in Atoka. During this time, he also served his community as a city councilman and mayor of Ada.
Following a radio broadcasting career, Ron was public relations director for Congressman Bill Brewster.
Ron's continued passion for music and playing it for others never left him. After leaving Ada, he was operations manager at KICM radio station in Ardmore, where he won five Outstanding Achievement in Broadcasting awards, and later worked at KMIL in Cameron, Texas.
This last year, Ron moved to Grapevine to be close to his family. He loved spending time with his grandson as they enjoyed many hours watching sports together. He lived at South Colleyvine Ranch, where he delighted in sharing his love of music with fellow residents with music shows he hosted on Friday afternoons.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his fiancée, Melany Aston; a brother, Lawrence and wife, Wenoka; and a nephew.
Ron is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Clowe and husband, Brad;, a grandson, Sam; and two nephews and a niece.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at Bishop Funeral home in McAlester.
