Madeline Marguerite Hargrave, 89, of Wewoka departed this life on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at her Wewoka home.
She was born Jan. 13, 1928, in an oilfield camp at Shamrock to the late George Robert Shipley and Ada Elizabeth (Holman) Shipley.
She graduated from Stonewall High School and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from East Central State College. She taught school at Wewoka Public Schools for many years.
She married Rudolph Hargrave June 29, 1949, in Sherman, Texas, and to this union three children were born.
Madeline was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wewoka, various church committees, PEO, Carnation Garden Club, Wewoka Arts Council, Seminole Nation Museum Board, Excellence for Education Wewoka and OEA. She was a proud member of Seminole State College Adult Aerobics Class, Sorghum Day Parade Marshal, East Central University Parade Marshal and Wewoka Arts and Crafts. She was also Wewoka Public Schools' Teacher of the Year.
Preceding Madeline in death were her parents and husband, Rudolph Hargrave.
Survivors include daughter Cindy Keefer and husband, Paul, of Ada; son John Hargrave and wife, Kay, of Ada; daughter Jana Howard and husband, Mike, of Ardmore; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and special friends Isabel Meyers, Mildred and Ernest Moore, and Fred and Mary Smith.
The family sends many thanks to Brandy Nixon, Dana Grace, Caring Connection of Wewoka and Dr. Glenn Crowson and his staff.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Madeline Hargrave Scholarship/ECU Foundation and Seminole Nation Museum.
A public graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery, Wewoka, with the Rev. Carol Reich officiating. The family will greet friends and family at the First United Methodist Church in Wewoka following the service.
