Juantia's Story

Text size

Juanita Tennie (Kennedy) Erwin went home April 5, 2017, to be with her Lord and many of her family members. She was a resident of Augusta, Kansas, where she lived since 2005 when she passed away.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Criswell Funeral Home in Ada. Viewing for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Internment at Allen cemetery will follow the service.
Juanita, 95, was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Allen to Letha and Charlie Kennedy. She attended Allen schools and lived around the area all her life, until moving to Kansas. She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Marshall Erwin, and they spent more than 30 years on the 4B ranch near Allen. Juanita was a medicine nurse and retired from the Jan Francis nursing facility in Ada.
Juanita loved traveling the states with Marshall and even going abroad with her daughter, Judy, in later years. She also enjoyed fishing, quilting, crocheting, going to First Baptist in Allen and visiting with her many friends. She also loved collecting antiques, especially pretty glassware. She loved "winning" at pitch, but was known to be a sore loser! She was the life of every family gathering and could still dance a jig in her later years. Juanita was a cat-lover, sometimes to the extreme!
She is survived by her brother, Floyd Kennedy of Raytown, Missouri; her daughter, Judy Young (Bob) of Merritt Island, Florida; her sons, Jim Erwin of Ada and Harold Erwin (Beverly) of Augusta, Kansas; six grandchildren, Jeff Erwin (Lynnette) of Guthrie, Lynna Erwin, Melissa Tilton (Frank), Michelle Brown (Robert) and Jay Erwin (Nicole); 23 great-grandchildren, Bailee, Kayli, London, Emily, Frankie, Joe, Oliver, Grace, Nini, Hannah (Devin), Lydia (Joseph), Jubal, Micah, Joel, Brenna, Javan, Justus, Jack, Sarah, Sophia, Briggs, Zander and Westen; a great-great-grandson, Beau; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marshall; her infant son, James Charles; her brother, Calvin; her sisters, Coy May, Freda, Lucille and Betty Jo; and her granddaughter, Lori Hill.
