Joseph Glenn Tipton, 74, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017. Joe was born Nov. 28, 1942, to Leon and Imo Tipton of Wewoka. He served three years in the U.S. Army after which he met his future wife, Marilynn Crenshaw, in Wewoka when he hollered, "Want a Coke?" from the corner gas station where he was working at the time.
They were married in 1964 and lived and raised their family in the Sasakwa area. Joe worked in many capacities, including as a gas station attendant, carpet layer and oil field worker, eventually wrapping up by retiring from Wal-Mart in Ada after 22 years of employment, where he was a general merchandise receiving manager.
Joe is survived by his wife, Marilynn; his son, Tony Tipton; two daughters, JoElla Coffey and Mary Kay Tarver; five grandchildren, Jacob, Caitlin, Alyssa, Emily and Alan; a brother, Don Tipton; a sister, Judy Gammons; and several nieces and nephews.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter; Teresa Lynn Tipton.
Joe loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, riding four-wheelers, hunting and being a shade tree mechanic taking care of his own vehicles, lawnmowers and tractors. Joe shared that knowledge and experience with his kids and grandkids.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 9 at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Ada.
