Herman's Story

Text size

Herman Jenkins passed away Nov. 28, 2016.
He was born Aug. 22, 1938, in Ada, the 14th child of 16 children of Elizabeth Admonis (Ingram) Jenkins and James Roy Jenkins.
He attended Homer Grade School and Byng High School. Herman loved the Byng reunions.
He married Jill Mary Ward of England Aug. 13, 1966, in England.
His family attended Mounds United Methodist Church for more than 40 years.
Herman was a piano tuner and technician for many years. He rebuilt many antique pianos, restoring them to their original beauty. While living in California in the late 1960s, he tuned pianos for clients such as Marjorie Main, Agnes Moorehead, Michael Legrand, Mary Costa, Robert Mitchum, Carol Burnett, Barbara Streisand and Julie Andrews.
He will be greatly missed by his family; his wife, Jill; his daughter, Stacy Shore; his granddaughters, Emma, Megan and Gillian Shere; his son, Travis (Cynthia) Jenkins; his grandson, Ian Jenkins; his sisters, Sheila (Bill) Austin of Tulsa, Shirley (James) Martin of Willis, Patricia (Roger) Boddy of Yuma, Arizona, and Judy (Ocie) Young of Beaumont, California; his brothers, (twin) Hollis (Eileen) Jenkins of Palm Desert, California; many other family members; and a host of friends.
His sister, Judy, wrote a poem about the twin boys' childhood:
"Just You and Me"
We played with our cars in the cellar.
Just you and me
Away from the girls, it was the best place
'Cause we had privacy.
We were planted between four sisters,
Two were younger, two were older
But we two boys did just fine
'Cause we were so much bolder
We rolled around old casons,
Rode bicycles held together with wire
We would play hard all day long
And never seemed to tire
I think of all the fun we had
Just you and me
Two barefoot brothers having fun
A happy life as could be
I wish that I could turn back time
And spend one more day with you
To just be boys again
And do all the things we loved to do.
Just you and me

We will join you later, dear brother
