Dana Dale Whitson was born Aug. 21, 1940, in Snyder, Texas. Dana passed away peacefully Sept. 22, 2016.
Dana married Lewis Whitson Aug. 25, 1960, in Snyder, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hardy and Coy Scarborough of Snyder, Texas; and Mary Edith Greene of San Francisco.
Dana is survived by her siblings, Daphne Harrison of Denver City, Texas, Hollis Scarborough of Houston, Texas, and Reginald Scarborough of Weatherford, Texas.
Lewis and Dana had two sons, Brent Whitson and his wife, Lisa, of Dallas and Michael Whitson and his wife, Susan, of Ardmore; Five grandsons, Tanner, Dustin, Carter, Derek and Blake; and two great-granddaughters, McKenlee and Jordan Whitson.
Dana received her bachelor of science in education from North Texas State University and her master's in education from East Central University. Dana was an elementary teacher for 45 years, during which time she was awarded teacher of the year and served as president of the Ada Teachers Association. Dana taught in several communities in Texas, including Denton, Cisco and Weatherford, and in Oklahoma, including Ada, Ardmore and Shawnee.
Dana loved music. She was a musician. She loved to sing and was a pianist. She sang in the choir and led children's choir as well. Dana also coordinated numerous weddings at First Baptist Church in Ada. Mostly, Dana was a committed wife, mother and grandmother. She was the biggest fan of whatever team Lewis was coaching and the team her boys (or grandsons) played for. She was also the epitome of what a coach's spouse should be.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Ardmore.
