Velma's Story

Velma Ruth Graham Finley was born May 15, 1935, in Lone Grove to the Rev. Harvey W. Graham and Noveita Ruth Stith.
She graduated from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1953. She graduated from the University of Corpus Christi (UCC) in 1957 with a bachelor's degree in music and education.
Velma Ruth married Dewayne Finley on June 6, 1959.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Bill and Robin Finley of Cedarville, Arkansas, Mike and Corona Finley of Watts, and Will and Delayne Finley Rooks of Fort Smith, Arkansas; two sisters, Pat Blair and Billie Klinglesmith of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren, three of whom are married; and two great-grandchildren, with two on the way. Also two people she loved as her children, the Rev. Tomas Hatley and his wife, Peggy, of Rogers, Arkansas.
Velma Ruth was an avid genealogist. She was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants and most importantly, she loved Jesus. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Watts.
Velma Ruth will be buried in the Lightning Ridge Cemetery in Pontotoc County.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Watts.
