Thomas Fred Welch, 77, of Ada passed away after a lengthy illness on May 23, 2017.
Fred was born May 22, 1940, in Union Valley near Stonewall in Pontotoc County. He attended Union Valley and Stonewall schools.
Fred worked 30 years at the Hudson Service Station on West Main Street in Ada. It was common for cars to line up for blocks, waiting for Fred to service their cars and share his wit and humor.
Fred enjoyed sketching portraits, researching local history and folklore, treasure hunting and sharing stories over coffee at the Aldridge Cafe. Most days, Fred could be found surrounded by his friends at the Chickasaw Senior Nutrition Center.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Elsie Welch of Ada; his wife, Linda Ann (Ward) Welch of Ada; his youngest son, Brian Welch of Tulsa; one brother; and three sisters.
Fred is survived by his oldest son, John and Paula Welch of Carefree, Arizona; daughters Kristi and Jeff Halstead of Guthrie, and Kathy Burrow of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Louise Borges and Roberta Lou Tipton of Norman; one brother, Terry Welch of Ada; and his friend Ann Linder of Ada, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Interment will be at Rosedale Cemetery, Ada.
