Thomas Arthur "Tommy" Burton Jr., 97, died Oct. 15, 2016, in Oklahoma City. He was born Jan. 3, 1919, in Erick to Thomas and Mattie (Grover) Burton.
He attended Bethany-Peniel College (now SNU). He married Helen Lucile Shaffer Sept. 14, 1940, in Hydro and they were blessed with 76 years of marriage. He enjoyed 57 years of pastoral ministry in the Nazarene church, serving in Barnsdall, Fitzgerald, Georgia, Bartlesville, Hastings, Nebraska, Corpus Christi, Texas, South Gate, California, Waco, Texas, Odessa, Texas, and Great Bend, Kansas, where he retired.
After retirement, he moved to Bartlesville to become the senior adult pastor for seven years, then retired again and moved to Ada. Health concerns brought him to Baptist Village in Oklahoma City.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters.
Survivors include his loving wife, Helen; his daughters, Karen Ewers and her husband, Charles, of Yukon, Annette Bodine and her husband, Larry, of Asher; his son, Paul Burton and his wife, Pat, of Mustang; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home in Bethany. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Mercer-Adams Chapel. Interment will follow in Wanette Cemetery in Wanette.
