Lessie B. Walston departed this earthly life on July 24, 2017, in Oro Valley, Arizona. He was born Dec. 13, 1939, in Hardin City to Kenneth Gerald and Eunice Katherine Hammonds Walston. He graduated from Ada High School in 1957 and went on to attend East Central University, where he obtained his BA in history and his MA in education. Lessie was a member of the Elks Club and East Central Sky-Divers and participated in demonstrations of parachuting skill in local communities. Lessie was a champion pool player.
Lessie began his teaching career in Towanda, Kansas, before moving to Upland, California, where he completed his career in the field of education. Lessie obtained his administrator's certification; however, he preferred classroom teaching and especially enjoyed his sixth-grade students.
Lessie was interested in antiques, motorcycle travel with friends, and cross-country road trips with his family. He had a special rapport with young people and will be missed by his family and friends.
Lessie was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Karen. He is survived by his brother, Gerald Walston of Jacksonville, Florida; his sister, Myrna and husband, John Glance of Upland, California; his former wife, Bonnie Rita (Thompson) Dennis of Oro Valley, Arizona; his son, Wade Walston and wife, Kara, of Orange, California; daughter, Lauri and husband, Tony Garcia of Oro Valley; daughters Gina Curtis, of Ventura, California, and Wendy Walston, of Lake Elsinore, California; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a host of many other loving family and friends.
