Judy's Story

Judy Howard passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life of 77 years at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church, with a reception to follow.

Judy was born July 30, 1940, to Sherwood and Sammy (Cobb) O'Neal in Midland, Texas. In 1952 at the age of 12, she moved to Ada and graduated from Ada High School. Judy attended William Woods College and received her bachelor's degree from East Central University.
On May 31, 1968, she married Berwin Lloyd "Buttons" Howard Sr. in Lubbock, Texas, and they would have celebrated their 50th anniversary in May.
Judy taught school at Haynes Elementary in Lubbbock and at Floyd, New Mexico. She then taught for many years in Farwell, Texas, where she was named teacher of the year. Judy was loved by her students.
She was a lifelong Baptist and was a member of Indiana Avenue Baptist Church.
Judy enjoyed all sports, especially watching her grandchildren compete. She also enjoyed traveling with her family. She enjoyed her annual get-together with her high school friends, known as The Dirty Dozen, every fall.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sherwood O'Neal.
Judy is survived by her loving husband, B.L. "Buttons" Sr.; mother, Sammy O'Neal of Ada; daughter, Lisa Stuart and husband, Bob, of Lubbock; four stepchildren, Becky Watkins and husband, Kie, of Lubbock, Ber Howard and Suzanne Cooper, both of Clovis, New Mexico; and Bowie Howard of Lubbock; two grandsons, Reagan Stuart and Luke Stuart, both of Lubbock; six step-grandchildren; three siblings, Jim O'Neal of Madill, Peggy Taylor-Clark of Ada and Steve O'Neal and wife, JoAnn, of Mustang; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
