Jim Epperson, 76, of Durant and formerly of Coalgate, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at his home. Jim was born Oct. 15, 1940, in Oklahoma City to Dr. Robert Beal Epperson and Marianne (Young) Epperson. "Jimmy" grew up in Coalgate, and later Atoka, where he graduated, met and married the love of his life, Wanda Joyce Watson, Aug. 31, 1959. He attended Oklahoma State University, East Central University and graduated from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service. His first job after marriage was at Murray Funeral Home in Durant. He later owned and operated Jim Epperson Funeral Service in Coalgate for more than 25 years.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Wanda of the home; his son, Bob Epperson of Owasso; Christy Race and her husband, Pete, of Durant; a sister, Cindy Burks and her husband, John, of Atoka; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Todd Epperson; and a nephew, Mark Cochran.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, both at First Baptist Church in Coalgate. Aspire Hospice Chaplain David Kaut will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Coalgate First Baptist Church Building Fund.
