Henry Nick Lolli
Nick was born Dec. 20, 1930, in Cottonwood to Henry "Red" Lolli and Pauline (Maggia) Lolli. His parents were Italian immigrants who came to Oklahoma to work in the coal mines. He was very proud of his Italian heritage.
Nick's parents opened Red's Grocery in 1937. His dad passed away in 1940 when Nick was 9. That event started Nick's long career as grocer and butcher. Nick and his mother ran Red's until 1980. He continued to work in the business until his retirement. He enjoyed retirement, ranching with his father-in-law, Sherman Branom.
Nick loved all sports, but especially baseball and the Yankees. He was a quick shortstop who played on many teams in the area. He was selected, out of high school, to attend a tryout camp for the St. Louis Browns. Even though he wasn't drafted, he was very proud of the opportunity.
An Army Corporal, Nick was stationed at Thule Air Base in Greenland from 1952-1954.
Nick married Sherry Branom Nov. 10, 1960. The couple celebrated their 56th anniversary last November.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry; his children, Steven Lolli of Oklahoma City, Kristi Broussard and her husband, Jeff, of Nixa, Missouri, and Judy Lolli of Broken Arrow; and he was a beloved "Papa" to his four granddaughters, Sheridyn, Sophia, Sydney and Serena Broussard.
Nick is also survived by his sisters; Wilmina Thomas of Denton, Texas, and Jeanine McFall of Oklahoma City; his aunt, Lena Leverenz of Chicago; his brother-in-law, Bill Branom and his wife, Sue, of Midwest City; his nephews, Mike Thomas, Nick Thomas and Bill McFall; his nieces, Barbara Smith, Nancy Golmon, Beth O'Donnell, Susan Ison, Debbie Lyon and Stephanie Branom.
Family visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday with Rosary at 6 p.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Coalgate. Father Leonard Higgins will officiate. Interment will follow in Lehigh Cemetery.
