After a brief battle with Lymphoma, Effie Marie Stewart, 73, returned home to her Heavenly Father Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, surrounded by family and friends at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Her devotion to family and her firm belief in the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior supported her in her struggles and ultimately gave her peace.
Effie was born April 29, 1943, in Calvin to the late Tom and Beatrice Elliott.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Beatrice Elliot; her brother, Clifford Elliott; and her sister, Ellen Mantooth.
She attended and graduated from Calvin Public School in 1961.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Carroll Stewart; two sons, James Stewart and his wife, Janet, of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Larry Stewart and his wife, Tina, of Ada; his grandsons, Christian Stewart of Laramie, Wyoming, Jordan Stewart and his wife, Mariah, of Green River Wyoming, and Zandon and Zeagan Stewart of Ada; and several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Effie was a gentle soul who found the time for anyone in need, a loving mother, grandmother and devoted wife. She was truly a woman of faith who loved Christian music and the Lord. She had a love for singing and was gifted with the ability to play the piano. She found solace in singing beautiful lyrics, evidence of her faith in Jesus. She loved attending church. Effie grew up in a large family and loved family reunions. She loved needlepoint, making beaded jewelry, cooking and was a very proud mother.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Effie Stewart will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Stonewall. Pastor Richard Dickerson will officiate. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Coal County.
Family visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home.
