Longtime Ada resident Charles "Monk" Sanders passed from this life Dec. 6, 2017, in Ada at the age of 83.
Monk was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Ada to his parents, Robert and Grace (Franklin) Sanders.
Monk worked for many years as a butcher for Reeves Packing Co. He and Virginia Wilson were married July 17, 1954.
Monk enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes, bingo and square dancing. He was a true outdoors man. RVing and camping he enjoyed as well.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Sanders, of the home; two sons, Billy and Bobby Sanders; two daughters, Vanessa Bevel and Corona Finley; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, longtime friends and neighbors.
Monk was preceded in death by his five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Earl Hood officiating. Interment will follow at Konawa Cemetery.
Family will have visitation held from 5-7 p.m. today at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home.
