Carroll James Stewart, 80, passed away Feb. 10, 2017, in Ada. He was born Sept. 6, 1936, in Oklahoma City to his parents Homer and Nancy Stewart.
One might say Carroll died over a period of months, as life hurtled on without him. Inching outward as to leave his body. Such a complicated mix of emotions one feels at death.
Carroll married his late wife of 45 years, Miss Effie Marie Elliott, Aug. 10, 1971.
Carroll enjoyed hunting, fishing, western movies and singing gospel music with Effie at church and at other services. He also enjoyed horses, playing cards and dominos. He was a retiree from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
He is survived by two sons, James (Janet) Stewart of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Larry (Tina) of Ada; two sisters, Carolyn (Kaki) Green and Mary Bell Heck; a brother, Douglas Stewart; four grandchildren, Christian, Jordan, Zandon and Zeagan Stewart.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Nancy Stewart; his wife, Effie Marie Stewart (2016); and a brother, Leamon Stewart.
When God saw you getting tired and your life was not to be.
He put his arms around you and said come with me.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Stonewall. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Pastor Richard Dickerson will officiate. Family visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home.
