CONNERVILLE ? Funeral services for Mrs. Bennie Rowlena Duncan, 76, of Connerville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, Connerville, with the Rev. Kenneth McCarthick officiating. Interment will follow in the Connerville Cemetery.
Mrs. Duncan passed away on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2015 at her home.
Bennie was born on Sept. 5, 1940, in Galveston, Texas, to Roy Darity and A. Z. (Steen) Darity. She came to Oklahoma as an infant, lived around County Line and Fox and attended and graduated from Fox High School in 1958.
After graduating, she attended East Central State University in Ada and graduated with a bachelor's degree in business and elementary education. While in college, she met Joe Duncan, and they were married on Aug. 19, 1961.
They moved to Wichita, Kansas, where she taught for one year. They then moved to Calvin, where she taught and continued her education at East Central, where she received her master's degree.
They had a daughter, Rowlena Jo Duncan, now Hartman, in January of 1964. The family moved to Altus to teach and then to Duncan, where she taught from 1965 until retiring in 1992. She and her husband moved to Connerville in 1999 and have lived here since that time.
Bennie was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Joe; her daughter, Rowlena Jo "Ro" Hartman and husband, David; two grandchildren, Shane and Mackenzie Hartman; her brother-in-law, Jim Duncan and wife, Judy; her niece, Jana Brinkley and children, Scott, Connor and Mason; her nephew, Jerel "Topper" Duncan; and several cousins.
Pallbearers for the service will be Bruce Woods, Roy Qualls, Huck Blevins, Matt Howell, Steve Cook and Kevin Flowers. Honorary bearers will be David Hartman, Shane Hartman, Scott Brinkley, Connor Brinkley, Mason Brinkley, Gerald Darity, Jerel "Topper" Duncan, Bobby Stewart, Don Woods and Octave Woods.
The family requests that memorials be made in Mrs. Duncan's name to the St. Jude Children's Hospital or to the Connerville Community Center.
